MIGA Elective Grants Program

Supporting medical students in developing communities

MIGA’s Elective Grants Program provides financial assistance to medical students undertaking their electives in developing communities.

Since 2004, we have supported over 100 medical students from across Australia who have participated in electives all around the world.

Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant travel restrictions we will not be offering the Program in 2021.
We hope to recommence the Program in 2022, depending on how the pandemic resolves and on the lifting of travel restrictions.  With you, and the rest of the world, we are navigating uncharted territory.

We remain immensely proud of our Elective Grants Program and the support it provides to medical students and developing communities.  At this time our hearts go out to those communities who are, unfortunately, at significant risk.
Thank you for your understanding and we encourage you to stay safe.

The Grants

MIGA offers ten Grants of $3,000, each consisting of:

For medical students

$1,500 to assist in funding your personal elective costs, including travel, accommodation and vaccinations

For developing communities

$1,500 to assist in the purchase of medical or other aid for the community visited

For Indigenous students

Each year, one of the ten Grants is reserved specifically for awarding to an Indigenous medical student
