Terms and conditions

  1. Eligibility criteria - to be eligible for a 2024 MIGA DIT Grant you must:
    1. Be insured with MIGA at the time of your application and also when the grants are awarded.
    2. Be a medical practitioner registered with the Medical Board of Australia who is:
      • In their 1st to 8th post graduate year; or
      • Enrolled in an accredited training program with an Australian medical college or society or have completed the accredited training program within the last 2 years.
    3. Be willing and able to undertake a training program or placement that is beyond the training prescribed through your college or society.
    4. Abide by the terms and conditions of the MIGA 2024 DIT Grants Program as determined by MIGA; and
    5. Be returning to Australia within three months of completion of your training program (if it is conducted outside of Australia).
    6. Incur reasonable and necessary expenses in the form of course fees, travel expenses and/or membership to professional bodies in relation to the training program, that exceed $8,000. (Applicants are welcome to submit other expenses to support their application, however the eligibility of these expenses for the grant application will be assessed at the discretion of MIGA).
    7. Disclose any grants, scholarships or other financial assistance you have been awarded in relation to your training program or placement.
    8. Applications open on 1 May 2024 and close on 30 September 2024.  Recipients will be notified by Friday, 20 December 2024.
  2. If awarded an MIGA 2024 DIT Grant:
    1. You will be an ambassador for and advance the good name and interests of MIGA during and after your placement.
    2. You agree to provide an article on, and photographs of, your experiences no later than three months into your placement and an additional article and photographs on completion (or after 1 year of receiving the grant - whichever occurs sooner), in relation to:
      • Your experience and what you have enjoyed.
      • How you have personally benefited from the training; and
      • How your local community and colleagues will benefit from your acquired skills and knowledge.
    3. Each article is to be a minimum of 1,000 words and may be edited by MIGA for length and clarity. You agree that MIGA may publish your name, the articles and pictures and may otherwise publicise the benefits provided by the grant.
    4. Your training program must commence by 30 September 2025, and you must provide to MIGA evidence of acceptance into your proposed training program prior to MIGA providing the grant. This confirmation must be in the form of a letter from the hospital, university, or doctor under whom you will train.
    5. You must provide evidence of expenses that you will reasonably and necessarily incur in relation to undertaking the training program to a minimum value of $8,000. This can be evidence of course fees, evidence of travel expenses, and/or evidence of membership to a professional body in relation to the training program.
    6. Evidence of acceptance into your proposed training program and of your expenses associated with the training program must be provided to MIGA by 31 October 2025.  You understand that if you do not provide this evidence to MIGA by this date, you will forfeit your eligibility for any grant.
    7. You must inform MIGA immediately if your training program is terminated or suspended before you have commenced it. If, for this or any other reason, you do not proceed with your placement after MIGA has provided you a grant, you will forfeit your eligibility for the grant and must repay the grant in full to MIGA upon demand.
  3. You accept that you will undertake your training program at your own risk and MIGA accepts no responsibility or liability arising directly or indirectly from you undertaking the training program.
  4. Receipt of a grant does not constitute any partnership, trust, agency, joint venture or employment relationship with MIGA.
  5. You agree to take reasonable care and diligence to ensure your conduct does not infringe upon MIGA’s or any other party’s intellectual property rights or bring MIGA’s name into disrepute.
  6. You must abide by the decisions of MIGA in relation to offers of grants for the MIGA 2024 DIT Grants Program.
  7. MIGA reserves the right to allocate the MIGA 2024 DIT Grants in its sole discretion. Any decision of MIGA is final and is not subject to any right of appeal or reconsideration.
  8. MIGA may retain your application and any supporting documentation and shall not be returned to you. However, all information provided will be retained in accordance with MIGA’s Privacy Policy, which can be accessed on our website at www.miga.com.au.
  9. You must ensure that your application form and any supporting documentation is received by MIGA no later than Monday, 30 September 2024.
  10. You must not have previously received an MIGA DIT Grant.
  11. You must not be a member of MIGA’s Boards or Advisory Panels.
