New insurance arrangements for eligible midwives in private practice

MIGA has been appointed by the Federal Government as the sole provider of professional indemnity insurance to eligible privately practising midwives commencing on 1 July 2010.

The new Midwives Insurance Scheme will support eligible midwives in providing high quality midwifery services to Australian women as part of a collaborative team with doctors and other health professionals.

As a new arrangement, midwives may have many questions about the insurance available and the operation of the arrangement with the Federal Government.
