MIGA Elective Grants Program

Elective Grants Program Polaroid Collage

"Supporting Medical Students in Developing Communities"

A major benefit of being a Student Member with MIGA is the opportunity it gives you to apply for an Elective Grant.

The Elective Grants Program began in 2004 with the aim of providing financial support for Medical Students pursuing an elective in a developing community.

Through the Program MIGA provides funding for medical students to pursue an elective in an area of personal interest and relevance to their medical studies.

MIGA is proud to offer the 2013 Elective Grants Program.

The Grants

MIGA offers up to six Grants of $3,500, each consisting of:

  • For Medical Students
    • An Elective Grant of $2,000 to assist in funding the Medical Student's elective, including the cost of travel, accommodation and vaccinations
  • For Developing Communities
    • A Medical Support Grant of $1,500. This is in addition to the Elective Grant and is to assist in the purchase of medical or other aid for the community you visit as part of your elective.

NEW Grant for Indigenous Students

At MIGA we acknowledge the challenges faced by Indigenous medical students in completing their qualifications.

As part of a new initiative in 2013, we will set aside one of the six Elective Grants to award to an Indigenous medical student applicant interested in pursuing an elective placement in a developing community.

Am I eligible?

  • Are current Student Members of MIGA.
