In the case of Grinham v Tabro Meats Mr Grinham sued his former employer Tabro Meats Pty Ltd after he contracted Q fever virus during his time working at an abattoir. Tabro joined Mr Grinham’s GP, Dr Catherine Murray, to the claim seeking to recover from her the workers compensation it paid to Mr Grinham. Mr Grinham’s claim against Tabro settled but the trial proceeded and was primarily focused on the legal obligation of a doctor to recall a patient who does not return for consultation/testing despite being advised to.

In late March we announced our agreement with QBE Insurance Australia and Invivo for MIGA to acquire Invivo’s business. We are very proud that MIGA was the preferred tenderer after an extensive and competitive selection process.

Following feedback from members wanting to transact their insurance electronically and acknowledging that there is an environmental benefit in us reducing the volume of printed material we produce and mail, we have been working on our IT systems to achieve an outcome whereby renewals can be conducted via email and the internet.

Now is the time to ensure you have all the necessary paperwork ready to be completed and submitted to AHPRA. Although AHPRA will send further reminders up to the renewal date, the Board has made it very clear that the responsibility to ensure that a health practitioner is registered rests with the health practitioner.

National Health Service Standards - Requirements in 2013

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare , after extensive consultation, released the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards in September 2012. Accreditation against these Standards will be required from January 2013.
