MIGA confirms its members are covered for administering H1N1 Vaccine
Following extensive consultation with the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) over the past few weeks, MIGA is pleased to confirm that doctors insured with it will be covered for claims that may arise in relation to the Government’s planned roll out of the H1N1 vaccine. MIGA will treat a claim arising from the administration of the vaccine in the same way as any other claim that may arise in a doctor’s practice, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy.
MIGA has been actively involved in productive and ongoing dialogue with DoHA to gain a full understanding of the potential risk factors with the roll out and how they will be managed, particularly in relation to the approval process with the vaccine and the use of multi dose vials.
We encourage doctors to access the material which will be provided by the Department and professional colleges to assist with minimising any risks associated with the roll out, which will include a standard patient-consent form, patient information pamphlets and written guidelines.
It is important that our members have access to up to date information when the vaccine is rolled out to ensure they are kept informed of developments as and when they occur. To assist with this, MIGA will provide members with on-line access via our website to key Government and professional college websites and information, giving an easy access point for up to date information. We encourage all doctors to keep informed about developments via our website and other material available to them.
The protection of our members is paramount and they can rest assured that claims or complaints made against them arising from the administration of the H1N1 vaccine are covered, in accordance with the terms and conditions of their medical indemnity insurance cover with MIGA.
Direct communications with members will follow.
